Proclamation Project

TSPN uses its annual Proclamation Project to elevate community conversations around suicide prevention during its observance of September as Suicide Prevention Awareness Month. By partnering with state and local leaders and advocates, we ensure every corner of Tennessee recognizes and acknowledges the importance of suicide awareness.

Our Proclamation Project is more than a symbolic gesture. It is a powerful statement that shows state and local leaders prioritize suicide awareness. It encourages open dialogue and demonstrates a dedication to highlighting resources and support for those affected by suicide in our state.

This year's campaign incorporated yard signs provided to each county mayor, promoting their office as a Tennessee Suicide Prevention Partner. The sign will be posted outside their building, advertising both TSPN and the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline. We received great feedback about the 988 signs, which were made available thanks to donor funding. Anyone interested in underwrite the cost of us making more signs available across the state may contact TSPN Executive Director Anna Sever at
asever@tspn.org.

Below are photos of proclamation signing events and yard sign presentations involving mayors, county executives, sheriffs, healthcare system executives, and school district superintendents, all with the intent of designating September as Suicide Prevention Awareness Month in 2024. Governor Bill Lee also signed a statewide proclamation. We appreciate them for their leadership in bringing attention to suicide prevention, helping reduce stigma, and starting conversations that can save lives.

TSPN's suicide prevention awareness and education efforts are not just for September--they run all year long. Reach out to your regional director to learn how you can get spread the message of suicide prevention within your community.
